Welcome, 2023! A new year is a time to plan out your goals, schedules, and what you want your year to look like. And, as you plan out your New Year’s resolutions that’s filled with your dreams of the year and what you hope to accomplish, don’t forget to include your four-legged friend! This time of year marks the perfect time to take a look at your pup’s life and decide on a few, new dog-focused resolutions to take into the year that keeps your dog not only happier, but healthier all year long.
We’ve rounded up a few dog-focused resolution ideas below!
More Dog Walks
The old saying is true, “a tired dog is a good dog!” If you’ve been neglecting your dog’s walks and exercise, especially in the winter, plan it into your 2023 schedule. Remember that your dog needs proper exercise (look up how much for your specific breed!) and the mental stimulation that outdoor excursions bring. Not to mention, going outside is good for you as an owner, too! Also, it brings your dog so much happiness. It could be walking with your dog to your favorite local coffee shop, heading to the neighborhood park to throw the ball, or scheduling some doggy play dates.
Learn a New Trick
Is there a trick you’ve always wanted your dog to do like spin, wipe their paws, or maybe they just never nailed the paw shake? Now is the time to teach them! Consistency and rewards are key when teaching a dog a new command. You can use a special and high-value treat, like Natural Farm’s Chicken Feet, for an exciting training session.
You won’t just get a new trick as a benefit: when in training, a dog’s mental stimulation is similar to what they would experience when exercising. So, you might find your dog is a bit more relaxed after a training session as they learn new things.
Refresh Your Hygiene Routine
Just like humans, dogs should have proper hygiene, too! A new year is the perfect time to get into a cleaning schedule for your dog’s teeth, coat, nails, and ears. Make your own doggy beauty parlor by brushing your dog’s coat daily, brushing their teeth weekly, monitoring their nail length, and making sure their ears are clean and mite-free. If you’re not sure how to properly do these things, ask your veterinarian, research, or head to your local groomer to establish a routine. Your dog will not only look great but feel great, too!
Pro tip: Natural Farm chews also naturally work to clean pup’s teeth as they chew, too!
Determine a Training Plan
Have a problem with your dog pulling on their leash or jumping on guests? It might be time to brush up on some old training and rules — or new rules and commands — that the whole family can know and follow. Either research on your own or contact a local trainer for group classes or a one-on-ones for your pup to work on their new skills or brush up on old ones.
Switch to a Healthier Diet
Now’s the time to read your dog’s food ingredients and educate yourself on the protein, grain, and other ingredients your dog should be consuming and if they're getting the proper nutrients. One of the best ways to keep your pup healthy is to ensure they are eating the right amount of calories for their breed size.
New year, new chews! Make sure the treats and chews your dog is eating are healthy and made of all-natural ingredients that have nutritional benefits. A great chew option are Natural Farm's Gourmet Collagen Sticks. This chew combines an irresistible collagen chew with all-natural beef for an extra bold and flavorful chewing experience. It’s ideal for medium and heavier chewers, and each stick contains 95% collagen for long-lasting fun that’s rich in amino acids.
For better weight control, muscle health, and dental health, Natural Farm's Tendon Dog Chews make a great choice for both medium chewers and teething puppies. Rich in glucosamine and chondroitin, your pup can safely indulge, all while protecting their hip and joint health. With one single ingredient—natural beef tendon made from grass fed, free-range cattle in Brazil—there’s absolutely no chemicals, hormones, additives, or artificial flavors.
Think About Pet Insurance
If you don’t have pet insurance for your dog, it’s something to think about getting. This type of insurance offers protection in case of accidents, illnesses, or disease that might happen to your pup and it can help owners save big if something unfortunate happens. There’s plenty of insurance coverage options with a wide range of monthly fees, so do your research to find the best fit for you.

About Natural Farm
In 2018, after years of searching for high-quality, natural dog treat products, we decided to bring them to the market ourselves. That’s how Natural Farm was born—we wanted to present the industry with what it lacked the most: natural dog chews, treats, and bones, sustainably sourced from local suppliers and produced in our own human-grade, FDA- and USDA-approved facilities, where every product is lab tested for quality and contamination.
Natural Farm is committed to pets, people, and the planet. We give back to communities and pets in need, support reforestation efforts and nonprofits, and our products are packaged using recycled materials.
